The 2017 Budget Act (Article 1, paragraphs 222 and 223 of Act 2016.12.11, No. 232) extended as of January 1, 2017 the application of the pension modality called “opzione donna” (women's option), which allows female workers to obtain a retirement pension with more favorable age requirements than those in effect from 1 January 2008 onwards ("Fornero" law).

Essentially, the Act allows for early retirement for female workers, in exchange of a penalty on the monthly check. 35 years of seniority and a minimum of 57 years of age for dependent workers are required (58 for self-employed persons).

This is an experimental scheme as it is only for those who have reached the requirements in the period from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2015.

This benefit also applies to female workers resident abroad who can add up the social security contributions paid in Italy with those of the country with which a social security agreement is in force.

For detailed information, see the SCHEDA OPZIONE DONNA and the Messaggio esplicativo dell''INPS del 15 marzo 2017 (both in Italian).
